As thousands of young people throughout Fife prepare to receive their exam results next week (Tuesday, 6 August), Fife College has been preparing a special event to ensure that everyone is matched to a course that’s right for them.
Clearing 2019 will take place on Tuesday 6 August, 3pm to 7pm, at Fife College’s Glenrothes Campus, Kirkcaldy Campus and Dunfermline Campus.
The event is ideal for those receiving results and who are not sure what to do next. Staff will be available to offer advice and support as well as career advice.
Fife College is a vibrant, fun and creative place to study and even for those that aren’t waiting on exam results and are considering a college course it’s not too late to apply. Places are still available for selected courses starting this September from access level courses through to degrees.
Fife College offers the opportunity to study the first two years of a degree locally, saving money on travel and accommodation. Students can also study your full ordinary or honours degree at Fife College, in partnership with Abertay University.
HNC Electrical Engineering student Chelsea Clarkson is glad she made the decision to study at Fife College.
“I originally came to college to study Wind Turbine Maintenance (Technical Knowledge) SCQF Level 6. I researched various courses on renewables and thought it was the best choice as it would give me a good knowledge on electrical and mechanical theory.
“My favourite part of the Wind Turbine course was learning how the wind turbines themselves function and how they rely on the environment to operate. I also enjoyed learning about how various mechanical and hydraulic machines operate, along with the theory of electrics.
“The course gave me a good level of knowledge, and I’ve already used some of what I learned as talking points during job interviews. It also provided me with a good insight on how various machines within the industry operate.
“After completing the HNC, I’m hoping to come back to the College to do my HND in Electrical Engineering on the same day release basis.”
Martin Kelly, Director of Student Engagement and Experience at Fife College, advises those receiving results to get in touch and gain as much advice as possible to help them make the best decision for their future. Martin said: “This can be a worrying time for young people and their parents or carers as they wait to receive their results to enable them to take that next step in life.
“Some may do better than expected while others may not have done as well as they had hoped and this might affect the plans they had previously made. My suggestion would be to get as much advice as possible and to consider all options and opportunities open to you. However, you don’t need to do that on your own.
“At Fife College we have a wealth of staff ready to help and to give advice and support. Our Clearing event is perfect for those who want to speak to our staff in person and quickly secure their place at Fife College.”
