Fife College is to host an online event for those inspired to consider a career in health and social care by the heroic efforts of frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The virtual engagement event, led by faculty staff, will offer potential students an opportunity to find out about health and social care courses, as well as childcare courses, available at Fife College,. These include short-term courses starting in January which can lead to qualification by summer 2021.

Delivered over Microsoft Teams on Thursday 3 December, the event will also provide prospective students a chance to find out more about life at the College from current students. There will also be an opportunity for participants to have their questions answered during a Q&A session.

Kay Fraser, Director of Faculty for Care, Social Sciences and Education, at Fife College said:

“Our online engagement event is a great opportunity to get first-hand information and insight about health and social care and childcare courses available here at Fife College, including a number which start in January. The event will also be a great chance to find out career options and employment opportunities within the sector.”

“From the choice to study full-time or part-time to work-placed learning and degree-level progression opportunities, there are a wide variety of ways to start a journey towards a rewarding career which makes a real difference to people's lives.”

Charlene Slimming, from Cowdenbeath, is one student who started her journey towards a career in health and social care at Fife College. Charlene said:

“The motivation to choose a course in care at Fife College came from an aspiration to gain entry to the BM Midwifery degree course. Being a mature student returning to education after a long break my chosen university had specified Highers in Human Biology and Psychology.

"The Pathway to degree and higher education course not only offered the Highers I needed but also encompassed other modules to support them which are proving to be useful now.”

Charlene, who has now been accepted by Edinburgh Napier University to study a BM Midwifery degree, added:

“I felt very supported throughout my time at college to enable me to complete my course around my family and shifts at the hospital. I was also very grateful for the encouragement from my tutor at times when I doubted myself.

“For anyone considering beginning a course with Fife College, I would absolutely recommend it. There were no barriers to achieving my dream educationally and my time at college was the perfect preparation for beginning my degree.”
