Fife College HND Legal Services student Tracy Sinclair has become the first recipient of the Bryan McCabe-Bell Scholarship.
Tracy, from Lochgelly, was presented with the scholarship award at the College’s Kirkcaldy Campus recently.
Tracy’s story was a real standout from the many applications received for the new scholarship. Despite having MS, which leads to mobility issues and cognitive impairment, Tracy has excelled in her studies to complete her HNC last year and has so far passed all her modules with flying colours this year.
Offered through the College’s Adam Smith Foundation scholarship programme, the award comes with a monetary prize which Tracy plans to use to buy a new laptop to help with her studies.
Tracy, who has applied to do a Criminology degree at Napier University when she finishes her HND, was delighted to become the first recipient of Bryan’s scholarship. Tracy said:
“It’s a fantastic boost to be recognised for the hard work and commitment I have put into my studies. I really appreciate Bryan’s support which will enable me to continue my studies and long term progress on to a career as a probation officer. I’d like to thank Bryan and the Adam Smith Foundation for this opportunity.
I would also like to thanks Legal Services for the ongoing support on my Educational Journey.”
Bryan McCabe-Bell is the Director of Business, Enterprise and Tourism at Supported Programmes at Fife College.
Passionate about education, Bryan introduced his own scholarship to support students within the Business, Enterprise and Tourism at Supported Programmes faculty. The scholarship will also be awarded next year.
Bryan, who is from Kirkcaldy, recently celebrated 25 years with the College and said introducing his own scholarship was a great way to give something back.
Bryan said: “I wanted to give something back to the students who have made my career possible – I believe education is a gift and something that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in.
“Tracy’s application was of a very high standard, and her passion for her studies shone through at the interview stage. I know the scholarship award will have a big impact on her as she goes on to have what I’m sure will be an interesting and fulfilling career once she finishes her studies here at Fife College.”
Open to students studying full-time courses within the faculty, the scholarship is awarded to those who are committed to their course, have high levels of attendance and are keen to use their qualifications to enhance their career prospects.
