Fife College has proved its numbers add up when it comes to Mathematics after smashing the national average in both National 5 and Higher Mathematics in the recent Scottish Qualifications Authority exam results.

The College was delighted that 81.6% of its students received an A-C pass in the National 5 exam, an amazing 16.1% above the national average in Scotland.

Higher Mathematics exam results also did exceptionally well with 78.3% of students receiving an A-C grade, 5.9% above the national average.

It was also full marks this year for Fife College when it comes to Mathematics and student satisfaction with 100% of Maths and STEM students who responded in an end of year survey, satisfied with their college experience.

Stewart McDonald, Academic Head for Engineering, Science, Technology and Built Environment at Fife College who is responsible for the Mathematics programme is delighted with the results.

Said Stewart: “This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work put in by all of our students. Our exam results are steadily improving year on year and these great results also reflect the work of our staff who are committed to supporting and helping students learn in a positive and fun environment. Maths for some can seem daunting, but we are really pleased that attitudes are changing, results are up and many more people are seeing the importance of Maths as they look to change their career or secure a place on higher education courses at college or university.”

Not only does Fife College offer great Mathematics courses with fantastic lecturers and resources, classes are also flexible to suit individual needs and can be studied part-time in the day, evening and through online study.
