COURSE INFORMATION

This two year course will continue to develop your hair and media make-up skills at an advanced level.

Year 1 will involve building a portfolio of fashion and photographic hair and make-up looks using advanced techniques. You will work towards a graded project to showcase your skills for progression on to year 2.

Year 2 will involve advanced techniques focusing on the skills required for gaining employment within the media industries. You will work towards your final graded project to showcase your skills in preparation for the industry. Employment experience is mandatory in this year. We have a limited number of spaces available in this year.

Year 1 (SCQF Level 7)

Year 2 (SCQF Level 8)

  • Graded unit

You will be required to be a model for classmates for all practical classes and source your own models for assessments.

  • Two years full-time
  • Please note: the mode of study will include twilight/evening sessions

Year 1

  • Four National 5s at Level C or above or equivalent (see our Qualifications Explained page for details) (must include English)

PLUS one of the following:

  • National Certificate: Make-up Artistry or equivalent
  • SVQ: Hairdressing or equivalent at SCQF Level 5 or above
  • HNC: Fashion and Runway Make-up
  • External candidates must have relevant industry experience and two Highers (which must include English)

In addition, internal applicants will also require a positive Internal Learner Reference (ILR).

Year 2

  • To progress from HND year 1, you will be required to submit an application and attend an interview. Progression will depend on attitude, attendance, ability, and achievement in year 1. We have a limited number of spaces available in this year.

You are required to purchase your own kit which is approximately:

  • Year 1 – approx. £500
  • Year 2 – approx. £500
  • Please note that this cost is based on current supplier prices and may be subject to change. You must have the kits delivered to your home before the start of the course
  • Information session and individual interview
  • You will be required to produce a style board and a 500 word report on a make-up artist of your choice and bring it to your interview
  • The style board should reflect current make-up trends
