A newly branded car is hitting the road to promote the benefits of Foundation Apprenticeship opportunities in Fife.
The College and Fife Council launched the new car which will be used by the College’s School College Partnership team to raise awareness of the Skills Development Scotland Foundation Apprenticeship qualifications.
The launch of the car comes as a recent report shows there has been a 45% increase in pupils enrolled on School College Partnership courses in Fife.
Latest figures have also shown a 9.5% increase in the number of pupils completing their Foundation Apprenticeship course.
Foundation Apprenticeships are open to senior phase pupils at all secondary schools in Fife. Taken as a subject choice alongside Highers and Nationals, pupils spend time learning the theory and gaining valuable experience in a workplace environment.
Completion leads to a qualification at the same level as a Higher, which is recognised by all Scottish colleges and universities and opens up more opportunities to progress on to a Modern or Graduate Apprenticeship.
Iain Hawker, Assistant Principal: Quality and Academic Partnerships at Fife College, said: “Working in partnership with Fife Council, the Foundation Apprenticeship programme allows us to provide an excellent stepping stone for senior phase school pupils on to career paths across a number of industry sectors enabling them to achieve a valuable work-based qualification alongside fantastic skills.
“It’s great to see our Foundation Apprenticeship car out and about in Fife. We are also excited about our plans to launch our Spot the Foundation Apprenticeship car competition in October which we hope will encourage more young people to find out about the benefits of Foundation Apprenticeships.”
Lucinda McAllister, Service Manager at Fife Council said: “Fife Council are very happy to be working in partnership with Fife College and SDS in the FA Car promotion, which will help boost the message to pupils, parents and teachers that the Foundation Apprenticeship is a programme of learning that will help route our young people into key industry sectors.”
Skills Development Scotland’s National Manager in the Development and Delivery of Foundation and Graduate Apprenticeships, Graeme Hendry said: “Foundation Apprenticeships are designed with industry, so young people are gaining the qualifications and developing skills employers want.
“Not only do Foundation Apprenticeships give pupils a head start with experience in their chosen sector, pupils, teachers, parents and employers report that they are also providing vital skills needed for the workplace, such as communication, team working and self-management.”
Fife College works in partnership with Fife Council and Skills Development Scotland to ensure Fife benefits from a fantastic, full range of Foundation Apprenticeships through the School College Partnership.
Foundation Apprenticeships offered in Fife include accountancy, business skills, civil engineering, software development, IT hardware, creative media, children and young people, engineering, scientific technologies, financial services and social services.
Skills Development Scotland developed Foundation Apprenticeships in partnership with education and industry, with support from the European Social Fund.
