Students and staff at Fife College will soon be benefitting from a wider range of sustainable initiatives at a national level thanks to a new role given to their Sustainability Advisor, John Wincott.
John was appointed recently to the Office Bearers Group of the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges Scotland (EAUC). The EAUC is the environmental and sustainability champion for Further and Higher Education in the UK, and it leads the way in driving forward important initiatives to make sustainability just good business.
The Office Bearers Group provides guidance and support for the EAUC activities in Scotland, and this appointment continues Fife Colleges commitment to sustainability. John is delighted to be accepted on to the Group and said:
"The EAUC plays a huge part in helping Universities and Colleges improve their environmental performance and to plan and move to a more sustainable future. This appointment makes me one of four office bearers in Scotland and I see my role as a vital one as tougher targets for carbon reduction and sustainability continue to come in to force."
John has also been chosen to work on a specific initiative within the EAUC, a UK-wide Climate Change Adaptation Project, which he sees as vitally important.
Added John: "As the impacts of climate change become more pronounced, institutions across the UK will need to evaluate the new risks being posed by climate change, and put in place strategies to reduce these. This working group is looking in detail at these challenges and it aims to identify and evaluate the range of environmental risks facing institutions and investigate controls to keep these in check.
"I look forward to working with the EAUC and to sharing my experiences and opportunities that come from it with my colleagues and students back in Fife College."
