Fashion students with Director Bryan McCabe
Talented Fife College fashion students showcased their latest designs in a fabulous fashion show and pop-up-shop, part of a series of events organised by the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline.
Shoppers enjoyed a morning and afternoon fashion show and picked up some creative bargains at the student run pop-up-shop.
Fifteen students modelled their creations at the show which ranged from smart evening wear through to casual culottes. The runway shows were organised by HND students Kathryn Conway, 35, Gabrielle Loutit,18 and Rachael Barrie, 25 and were compered by Director of Business, Enterprise and Tourism, Bryan McCabe.
Rachael Allan, 23 and Marnie Archibald, 20, from Kirkcaldy enjoyed helping to run the pop-up-shop. On the day Marnie also modelled in both fashion shows. She is currently studying HND Fashion Design and Production with Retail and is looking forward to going on to study BA Fashion Communication at Heriot Watt University after the summer. Said Marnie: “It’s great to get opportunities such as this to meet the public, showcase our designs and get feedback. Long term I hope to become a magazine stylist.”
Former students Karen Smith, 51, from Glenrothes and Sandra Cunningham, 47 from Leven were delighted to be invited to sell their creative gifts in the pop-up-shop. Said Karen: “Sandra and myself are both single parents and clicked right away on our first day at College – since then we have become good friends and supported each other through our studies. We now have our own business, Kandra, and make items from recycled clothing including memory cushions and bears to remember people who are away from home or loved ones who may have passed away. We really enjoyed our course especially the creative side which has given us the skills to set up our business in Dunshalt, just outside Falkland. We loved the course and would recommend it to anyone!”
Susan Finlay, Fashion Lecturer at Fife College, was delighted and proud of the work put in by the students and said: “Real experiences such as this are extremely valuable to students and can help them secure a place at University or future employment. It’s great for them to get feedback from the public and to use this in their future designs. At Fife College we are committed to ensuring our students benefit from experiences outside the classroom.
“Over the last three years, all of our students who have applied to University have had at least one offer and some have up to five offers on leaving us which is a fantastic result and testament to the hard work our students put in and the support and opportunities they gain while at college.
“We would like to thank the Kingsgate for the opportunity and hope to work with them again on future events.”
